The St. Boniface Riels clinched the eighth and
final playoff spot in the MMJHL this season, but
their reward was a best-of-seven matchup against
the No. 1 Charleswood Hawks. Still, for the Riels
two stars, Jens Giesbrecht and Skyler Eastman, it
was a rewarding season. And, heck, even after five
years in the MMJHL, there is a lot more to their
lives than just the rink.

or St. Boniface Riels’ five-year-veterans, Jens
Giesbrecht and Skyler Eastman, hockey is fun.
In fact, these two just might be the poster boys
for the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League.
The MMJHL prides itself on offering high-level com-
petitive hockey for local players who also have lives to
live away from the rink. For Eastman, who had 28 goals
and 62 points this season, and Giesbrecht, who had 12
goals and 72 points, the MMJHL offers exactly what they
love – a chance to play high-level junior hockey and go to
