Sanford’ s Halle Oswald turns talent into a Panda ride |
Halle Oswald just might be the best 2000-born female hockey goaltender in the province of Manitoba. Maybe in all of Canada. This past August she was chosen to play for Team Canada at the U18 series against the United States in Lake Placid and she now appears to be a young go-to goaltender in our national team program. Sadly, she won’ t be in Manitoba for long. The 5-foot-7 star from Sanford has recently committed to play for the U Sports-champion, University of Alberta Pandas for the 2018-19 season. Her future just gets brighter every day.
Canadian National U18 Team member Halle Oswald had a remarkable season in 2016-17. Now, at the ripe old age of 17, she just might be one of the best female goaltenders in the game. Anywhere.

Entering her final year of midget hockey in 2017-18, Oswald couldn’ t be more excited about what her hockey future holds. Having also recently been invited to Canada’ s Under-18 selection camp, the upcoming season is bound to be a rewarding one for the young woman from tiny Sanford, Man.“ Getting the invite to the Team Canada camp was one of – if not the – most exciting days of my career so far,” Oswald exclaimed.“ Being surrounded by such good athletes was awesome, and it was a great feeling playing with so many other high level girls from across Canada; I learned so much there. I think the experience of going out to all of these camps and learning new skills, along with tweaking some things, is really |
going to help me a lot next year.”
Growing up in southern Manitoba, Oswald naturally played for the Pembina Valley Hawks, and only switched over to girls hockey two seasons back. Although paving her own path as a goaltender, the proven netminder knows exactly where she acquired her keen sense of protecting the net.
“ Ever since I was a baby I grew up going to my brother, Tyler’ s hockey games,” Oswald said.“ He was a goaltender as well, so I always had it in my mind. I was a lot like most younger kids who always tried to be like their big brothers, and that really got me into it.”
Tyler Oswald spent time with the Winkler Flyers and was drafted by the Western Hockey League’ s Saskatoon Blades before turning his attention to coaching. He coached Halle and
