Host Team Finishes Fourth at 2017 Keystone Cup
After years of planning and the incredible work of 80 volunteers, Arborg, Man., finally got its chance to play host to the 2017 Keystone Cup, the Western Canadian Junior B Hockey Championship. In the end, the Wainwright, Alta., Bisons won the Cup, but the host team, the Arborg Ice Dawgs were the hit of the tournament. After losing the Provincial Championship to Peguis, the Ice Dawgs reached the Bronze Medal game of the Keystone Cup. It was a tribute to the people of Arborg who made the event possible.
ARBORG, MB. – You have to give those Arborg IceDawgs credit. They were certainly the stars of their own tournament.
In mid-April, the Town of Arborg, Man., played host to the 2017 Keystone Cup, the Western Canadian Jr. B Hockey Championship. For a small Interlake town like Arborg, a town with a population of 1,232, this was a huge undertaking. But thanks to the exciting play of the home team and the work of almost 80 volunteers, it was one of the most successful hockey events ever held in Manitoba.
“ The 2017 Keystone Cup was a huge success,” said Ivan Gulay, the General Manager of the Ice Dawgs.“ I believe Arborg will be rated very highly as one of the top communities ever to play host to the Junior B Westerns.
“ The Arborg Western Committee consisted of 20 board members with co-chairs Allan Sigurdson and Maureen Sigurgeirson. This committee consisted of a strong core of individuals who knew that through hard work, dedication and countless hours of effort, we would be successful.”
