UNIVERSITY
f there are still people who refuse to
believe that hockey produces outstanding
citizens and community leaders, then those
people have not been paying attention.
At Balmoral Hall, the prep hockey program
has long graduated some of the finest hockey
players and most creative minds in Manitoba and
that tradition has certainly not stopped this season.
Back in September, we told you about Blazers star
Olivia Cvar who had already accepted a scholarship
to powerful NCAA Division 1 St. Cloud State
University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Now, four more
Blazers players have committed to universities in
both Canada and the United States.
Goaltender Bianca Zak will head to Mount
Allison University in Sackville, N.B., forward Sidney
Shyiak has committed to University of Regina,
Delaney Boehm is off to University of Prince
Edward Island in Charlottetown and defenseman
Mackenzie Guimond will play for the Northlands
College (Northern Collegiate Hockey Association) in
Ashland, Wisconsin.
And besides playing hockey, what do these young
women want from their university experiences?
Zak and Boehm want to become medical doctors,
Shyiak will study Kinesiology and Guimond wants
to become a special needs teacher. It would be fair
to say that the kids are alright.
LET’S MEET THEM >>
