Oakbank’ s Quinton Howden set up Canada’ s final goal while Morden’ s Chay Genoway played nearly 24 minutes as Team Canada beat Czech Republic 6-4 to win the bronze medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
With the win, Canada has reached the podium at three consecutive Winter Olympics. The Canadians, using NHL players won gold in 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi. This year, the NHL refused to participate in the Games and Canada’ s team was made up primarily of players from Europe and the Kontinental Hockey League. Were it not for a tough 4-3 loss to Germany in the semifinal, this team might have a solid shot at gold.
Genoway played a major role in the team’ s success, playing at least 20 minutes in every one of Canada’ s six games. Like Howden, he had one assists in the tournament.
