Bruins fan, and basically told my parents that if it’ s a boy, I would be called Bobby,”. Dean Calder – Orr’ s current Head Coach with Central Plains – remembers the first time that he ever saw Bobby skate.
“ It was just a‘ Wow!’ Moment, like this kid is actually Bobby Orr,” Calder excitedly reflected.“ I have three young boys playing hockey, so I had actually seen the name before on other teams’ rosters, but it definitely gave me a little chuckle the first time I really saw him come out as a potential player for our team. He actually wore number four during tryouts, but when he made the team he picked the number six. Jokingly I said,“ Number six? Bobby Orr doesn’ t wear number six, Bobby Orr wears number four.” He laughed, but the idea was that he kind of wants to be his own player.”
Even though 2017-18 is only Orr’ s first year playing AAA hockey, he is thoroughly enjoying the experience. Coach Calder believes that with his size and skill, there is a bright future ahead for number six, Bobby Orr.
“ After not playing AA or AAA in the past, Bobby is certainly doing a tremendous job for this team,” Dean Calder said.“ He’ s got some good puck skills and really likes to dangle; he does everything you ask of him. Right now, we are working with Bobby on using his size to be a little bit more physical. He plays more of a finesse game right now, but he has all the tools to be a really good hockey player down the road.” ❍
