MANITOBA MOOSE
was an opportunity that really hit home for the 25-year-old.“ I used to go to Moose games all the time, back when they were in the old IHL,” he said.“ So I remember Jimmy Roy and all those guys back from when me and my buddies would go watch when we were eight or nine. Obviously growing up here you looked up to the Moose. They were the pro hockey team in Winnipeg. So now having the chance to be a part of that is incredible. I have no bad words to say, it has been a great experience so far. Who wouldn’ t want to be at home, playing hockey in front of friends and family every day? Now that’ s a lot of extra motivation.” Glennie has fit in quite well with the Moose, often finding himself playing alongside Chase De Leo and Kyle Connor on the team’ s top offensive line. According to Moose Head Coach, Pascal Vincent, it’ s his AHL experience that means so much to the team.“ I really liked him since Day 1 at training camp,” Vincent said.“ His attitude was right, and I am really happy for him. He wanted a second chance and he clearly took advantage of the opportunity. He is great around the puck and knows where to go. He is making good plays and is very strong one-onone. Along the boards he is winning a lot of battles, so I like what I’ m seeing.” Coming back home from balmy Dallas does have the Winnipeg product missing some of the luxuries of playing in the southern U. S.
“ If I wanted to, I could leave the rink and go play a round of golf in Texas,” Glennie said.“ It was a good place; I could really get my mind off of the game once I left the rink. It was always beautiful outside, so I could go lay down and relax – nothing like the 10 feet of snow here. The fans were different there too; they were actually really rowdy! They were really into it and thoroughly enjoyed the toughness of the game. Obviously they are big football fans there, so they liked the hitting and the fighting. That was awesome.” Now, just past the halfway point in the season, Glennie has proven that he can still play at the AHL level. Once a highly touted first-round selection, Glennie knows that the work is never done.“ Obviously I want to be playing in the NHL, as every kid dreams of playing in The Show,” he said.“ But to be perfectly honest with you right now, I’ m just glad to be playing again and happy to be back. If there is an opportunity to play in the NHL, well of course I’ d love to have that chance. But for now, the team is doing OK, and personally just being back in the rink, playing hockey every day, and getting this opportunity that’ s in front of me, I’ d take that over anything any day.” n
