in by 99 different referees and timekeepers who covered all the games played throughout the tournament this year. Two individuals who deserve a little extra credit for that aspect of the tournament’ s success were referee assignor Ted Szypowksi, and timekeeper assignor Lou Mulvenna. According to Szypowksi“ 95 percent of the game officials used for the Winnipeg Jets Challenge Cup would be considered local in proximity of the MTS Iceplex as part of the St. James-Assiniboia Minor Hockey Association( SJAMHA), and Assiniboine Park Hockey Association( APHA), while the remainder were used from other area associations in and surrounding Winnipeg.” The tournament also raised additional money to donate to St. James-Assiniboia Minor Hockey Association, the region which sanctions the tournament on behalf of Hockey Winnipeg. This year, $ 2,000 will be to the SJAMHA. Funds were raised by running a draw table that featured six prize packages, including autographed Dustin Byfuglien, and Mark Scheifele Heritage Classic jerseys. Next up at MTS Iceplex is the Manitoba Moose Minor Hockey Challenge which provides teams with an end of the season tournament to cap off their minor hockey year. This year’ s edition will run March 18-23 with all games at MTS Iceplex offering A2, and A3 divisions at the Minor Atom, Atom, Minor Peewee, and Peewee levels.
