This year, Hunter, Magne and teammates Jordy Hill( third season in St. Malo) and Jonathan Kostek( second season with the Warriors), are the 21-year-olds on a team that has a tremendous chance to win the KJHL title. ST. MALO, MB. – Riley Hunter wishes that Jared Magne had also been named a KJHL All-Star. After all, Hunter and Magne grew up together in St. Malo, Man., and have played together virtually every year since they were five years old.“ It’ s a big deal to be an all-star, it’ s nice to be recognized,” Hunter said graciously.“ But I would have liked it if Magne could have been an all-star, too. He’ s having a great year and I really like playing on a line with him. It would have been nice if he could have been an all-star.” Hunter and his friend Magne aren’ t related, but it’ s almost as if they were brothers. Magne is in his fifth full season with the Warriors while Hunter, who played a couple of seasons of Jr. C in Grunthal, has played three full years in St. Malo. However, their relationship goes even deeper than that. Hunter is 21 and grew up in St. Malo. He started playing novice at five and played all of his minor hockey in the small-town home of NHL stars Travis Hamonic and Danny Lambert. His dad was a player who played college hockey at Bottineau, N. D. He might be small at 5-foot-7, but with 34 goals and 69 points in 23 games this season, it’ s pretty obvious he can score.
