MANITOBA MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE
During an interview with Mike Lorange, captain of the Charleswood Hawks, in the Holiday Edition of Game On Magazine, Lorange called Pembina Valley Twisters forward Corey Mazinke,“ One of the best players in the MMJHL.” It’ s hard to argue with Lorange’ s assessment. Mazinke has come off the family farm near Morris and become one of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League’ s leading scorers on a team that has a legitimate chance to hoist the Jack MacKenzie Trophy this spring.
MORRIS MAN. – Corey Mazinke makes no bones about the fact that he’ s a farm boy. In fact, even though he’ s a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Manitoba, Mazinke says he’ ll always be connected to the farm,“ In some way.” Mazinke is also a hockey player. A good one, too. In fact, he’ s among the leading scorers in the Manitoba Major Hockey League with 16 goals and 33 points in his first 26 games. He’ s the Twisters leading scorer and at press time, he was fourth in the league Playing in his fourth and final year in the MMJHL, the 21-year-old Mazinke has almost matched his scoring output from last season. In 2015-16, he had 19 goals and 33 points in 27 games. This year, he’ s going to surpass those numbers by the end of January. In his first year in the loop, back in 2013-14, he played all 42 league games as an 18-year-old. During the past two seasons, however, he’ s never been able to play more than 28. Now, as a third-year Mechanical Engineering student, he hopes to play more. In fact, he’ s already played 20 of his team’ s 23 games and
