Somehow, out of a very small salary, Les managed to save over the years until he was able to
buy a house, number 30 Berg Street. He and Ruby had been going out since they were eighteen
and at last the moment came when the house was bought and he could offer her a home and a
husband with an income.
Les was determined that when he was a husband and father he would a) NEVER touch alcohol
b) limit his number of children c) always provide for this small family and d) always dress and
behave like a gentleman.
Leslie stuck to these principles all his life, and if there was not much fun and laughter in the
doing thereof he kept to his principles most admirably.
And so we come to the end of this little sketch based on the Hodgkiss Genealogical Chart and
legends as told by Ruby, and embellished by my own memories. I have no idea how to tell if it
is the Truth or indeed what the Truth of anything is, but it is One Truth and perhaps it can be
