EDITOR’S
LETTER
If this is your first look at Galaxy Gazette,
you may have some preconceived notions about what
to expect once you turn the page. Or you may be a
reader from our facebook page and you know that we
love fitness, love imagery of women, and we love
functionality with a touch of added beauty, and
beauty starts from within.
Galaxy Gazette is not made for one type of person,
man or woman. As a female Editor-in-Chief, it can
sometimes be challenging to find a balance between
creative, sensual fashion-inspired images of women, and
overtly sexualized images of women. I encounter this challenge
daily, and I find that I sometimes must step away from my
pseudo- feminist ideals to appreciate what we have created here.
You may think that a woman taking her clothes off for a photograph is wrong,
but I think it makes that woman strong. When you look at a show like
Miss Galaxy Universe, far from being exploitative, you see a
beautiful and proud representation of the female form.
And a series like Massage Board by Katie Chimes, or Stage Presence by Amy Rigby, create another world where the girls are free to be someone else, somewhere
else, and create a persona of sexual confidence, even if they are not that way in
their everyday lives.
Giving models, photographers, writers and artists the opportunity to express
themselves in a way that may not always be welcomed in the mainstream
is exactly what Galaxy strives to do, and I believe that for a second time
we have successfully met our quota of sexy, beautiful and inspiring imagery,
paired with provocative writing and beautiful artwork.
The Galaxy Gazette is written by the Galaxy Girls and is read by everyone. It is
short, informative and above all real. Please enjoy our first edition.
