Photographer- Maria Pantin coach felt confident to leave us to practice on our own while he attended to other students. In his absence we started a bit of a competition. Proper form is essential to win but for two certain beginners, the competition was more about hitting the bull’s eye; technique was secondary. Without properly holding the bow to aim and shoot, our competition inadvertently turned into, “Whose arm would be sorer at the end?” The coach seemed to have eyes at the back of his head because without looking at us, he somehow knew what was happening. “Anchor under your chin! Maintain your form! Keep a firm grip,” coached Mr. Ramesar. These words were like the leaves from the tree behind us and floated through the air instead of registering in our heads. It didn’t help that little three-year old children were shooting like pros in comparison to us. We’ll need a whole lot more practice. Archery has its target in our hearts and it is an experience that will not be forgotten. We also have the black and blue battle marks to prove it. Needless to say, we feel like we have a shot at archery in a future edition of the Avengers or maybe Hunger Games. Watch out Hawkeye and Katniss Evergreen, there are a couple of new archers in town! Elite Archery Club offers archer lessons every Saturday from 9:30 AM- 5:00PM at the Hillview College in El Dorado, Tunapuna.
