As we cruised past several of the Bocas Islands, the captain entertained us with humorous stories and a brief history about each one. He enlightened us about the uninhabited Centipede Island, which is home to the largest centipede in the world. He described this as a fun fact but we would class that information as scary! I was thrilled that this island was not on our itinerary for the day, otherwise the Coast Guard would have been called.
The atmosphere aboard our boat was so free and fun that we weren’t sure how long the trip actually took before we passed Gaspar Grande, also known as Gasparee Island. This and Monas Island were the recommended spots for vacation homes. Gasparee
Island looked tiny with no more than twenty houses, cosily perched on the hills behind the bay.
The wind tousled our hair and heavy mist from the sea sprayed our bodies as the boat cut through the rough waves en route to our first stop, Turtle Bay. The beauty and serenity of Turtle Bay were surreal. It felt like we were entering the backdrop for a movie set. A few beachfront houses occupied one side of the cove and the green water separated us from the tall trees on the other side of the semi-circled haven.
