Wherever , whatever

Calabrese ready to help , no matter the need

Anna Beall , Staff Writer

It takes a big heart to get a community service organization going .

Marc Calabrese has a heart big enough to go above and beyond just one program . Over the past few years , Calabrese has started a food ministry with Soul Food of Cooke County , a program helping kids get Christmas presents with Cowboy Santa , and he still always looks for ways to do more .
Calabrese says his ministry really began as a 9-year-old kid in Valley View .
“ Homeless people would come through our town , and I ’ d go home and tell my mom , and I would feed them ,” said Calabrese . “ I think that ’ s my calling , to help people . As a young boy , that was what I always wanted to do . Just help them and feed them . We really didn ’ t have much , but we did always try to make sure they got food .”
After growing up , Calabrese did some work feeding the homeless in Dallas and Denton before starting up in Gainesville . He initially got started with just inviting some guys in the woods around Walmart to eat .
