FOREWORD FROM THE EDITOR GAELIC SPORTS WORLD PUBLISHER: One of the most influential amateur sport’s clubs in America is without doubt the Milwaukee Hurling Club (MHC) from Wisconsin. The club is small in size when compared to other sports bodies of the less well known or minor sports categories in the US, yet it has risen to become the largest hurling club in America in a relatively short 19 year period. The way the club goes about its business, its passion for the sport of hurling and its friendly outlook is increasingly getting noticed by folks in the city of Milwaukee and describes an influence that is not to be taken lightly. Denis O’Brien EDITOR: Denis O’Brien ART DIRECTION: Cathaoir Sóna CONTRIBUTING WRITERS: Catherine Fleming, Rory O’Donnell, Tommy Moran, Cyril Iordanidis, Ronan Deane, Eamon Gormley, Jamie Fitzsimons, Joe Trolan, Brian Clerkin, John Simcoe, Dave Dunne CONTRIBUTING PHOTOGRAPHERS: Rory O’Donnell, Marie Walsh, Jerry Hess, Peter Marney Legal info. The Milwaukee Hurling Club has also influenced the birth of new hurling clubs in Wisconsin throughout the Midwest and even down south. The level of organization and attention to detail in how the club runs its league has become a blueprint for other US Gaelic sports clubs to follow. MHC has become a buzzword for all things hurling in the city of Milwaukee and judging by the growth from year to year of new recruits who had never heard of the game, the relatively small club of some 300 plus active members, is set to grow and grow. For the club, last Sunday was a big day as it brought the 11 team summer hurling league to a close in the MHC Championship Game. In this edition we highlight MHC’s big day and report on the final match of the summer season.
