FOREWORD FROM THE EDITOR GAELIC SPORTS WORLD PUBLISHER: EDITOR: We hear so much about the trials and tribulations of generations of Irish Diaspora from familiar places like America, Britain, and Australia, but not so often from places that appear to have no attraction for Irish emigrants such as the country of Argentina. In our main feature this edition, we remember the Irish immigrants who made the arduous journey to the Pampas and rediscover one of the cultural traits they carried with them in their hearts, the game of Hurling. We tell their story through the eyes and ears of The Hurling Club of Buenos Aires, and how hurling became a focal point for Irish, and Irish-Argentines in the past, before it faded with time. Today however, there are new seeds being sown in Buenos Aires in the same club and it could mean that the sport will once again flourish throughout this vast country and even spill over into other South American nations. Hurling can be the key to open lost treasure to the Argentine and South American Irish diaspora.
