By Simon Gillespie
The New York Feile Girls team
captured the Division 3 National
Feile Football Championship in
dramatic fashion at the recent Féile
Peil na nÓg in County Mayo, Ireland.
Trailing by four points with four
minutes to go the New York Girls
kept their composure to bag two
late goals and several points to win
the competition against a much
fancied Carryduff outfit from
County Down.
This is the second time that New
York have won National titles at
the Girls Feile winning Division 4
against Bredagh also of Down in
2012. The team was managed by
Pat Mc Govern with Selectors Celine Kelly and Vince Tyer, while
Siobhan Lyons was the group’s
Tour Manager, and Simon Gillespie
the trainer of the team.
CROKE PARK VISIT
The group arrived in Ireland last
Tuesday June 25th, and headed
straight for Croke Park in Dublin
to get a guided tour of the famous
GAA stadium. After that it was on
to Athlone, County Westmeath

GROUP STAGE
The Feile Peil competition began
on Friday June 27th and first up for
the Girls from the Big Apple in the
group stage was the Glenamaddy/
Williamstown club from County
Galway. The New York girls were
determined to show they meant
business and they duly dispatched
the Tribeswomen 8-9 to 0-0. Next
up for New York was the St Patricks
Club from Wicklow, a team who
had put NY out of the 2013 Feile at
the group stages. Revenge was on
the mind of the New York Girls and
they outclassed the Garden County
Champions defeating them 7-07
to 1-02, firmly burying the ghost
of last year’s disappointment. New
