ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA OCTOBER 26, 2015 SOUTH OZ SEASON UP AND RUNNING If the first round of the 2015/2016 state league is anything to go by, South Australia GAA is in for a very exciting season with things having just got underway. Now that the GAA year in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia has finished, it’s the turn of the folks in southern Australia to shine with their season underway in the past two weeks. The city of Adelaide is the base for all things Gaelic Sports in South Australia with competitions taking place over three days each week at the Gaelic Football & Hurling Association of South Australia grounds of St. Mary’s Park. GAELIC 7’S Similar to last year, we again see the Men’s Gaelic Football 7’s held every Wednesday evening with 10 teams in action this season. This shortened form of Gaelic Football is specifically designed to introduce local and new players to the game and to date has been very successful. St. Brendan’s 7’s team won this competition last year and the sides this season are Western Ireland, Lions, State Minors, Dingoes, Angrys, Angrys.5, Irish Australians, Onkas, Beachies and Flinders. The Gaelic 7’s started on October 14 and with two rounds played it sees three teams on top with two wins out of two – Beachies, Onkas and Western Ireland with Beaches in the lead courtesy of a better scoring difference. STATE LEAGUE The premier event in Adelaide GAA circles is the State League for both ladies and men’s Gaelic Football. There are 7 teams in each code and play 15-aside so it’s an impressive 27
