Newcomers Canterbury recorded a fine two point victory over a mostly Australian SA team and NSW made their presence felt when defeating last year’s finalists Victoria by 8 points. But it was the last two games that decided the final semi-final placing when SA had two goals to spare over home crew Wellington with Canterbury fading to a 0-7 to 2-10 at the hands of Queensland.
