2015 TOP 6 TEAMS IN HURLING BY DENIS O’BRIEN OCTOBER 1, 2015 Now that we are in autumn with darkest winter on the horizon, we pause to reflect on the 2015 Hurling Championship and look at what we feel are the Top 6 teams in hurling. PROMISE After an interesting league that heralded the rise of victor’s Waterford and the relegation of 2013 All Ireland champions Clare, with a depleted Kilkenny almost suffering the same fate, there was plenty to whet the appetite with the promise of an exciting championship in summer. MUNSTER It never quite materialized however with the first championship match in Munster between Clare and winners Limerick a dogged, defensive affair for the most part with it only coming to life in the last 10 minutes. The Cork and Waterford game had flashes of excitement but after the two had met in the league final one expected this to have a bit more bite but it disappointed with the Deise too good for a poor Cork. Then Tipp hammered a lifeless Limerick before proving too strong for Waterford in the Munster Final, a game that never quite hit the heights of bygone years. 39
