Photo: Jeff McCarthy LADIES CUP MEN’S CUP Helsinki ladies have been very busy in the past two years and have built a team to rival most in Europe. Strong, quick and aggressive in all they do. It was little surprise that they cleaned up in this competition. That being said, the score lines do a discredit to both Jyväskylä and Oulu Ladies teams who both put in credible performances on the day. With a little more time and experience these two will start to challenge the Capital city girls. The Helsinki Harps men’s team left a lot of big guns at home for this tournament after a stellar year in the Nordic tournaments, but they still had enough to steal the Elks Cup back down south after last years shock defeat. Jyväskylä ran out 2nd place runners up this year which is mainly down to a lot of hard work on the training field and a good young squad of players who will only get better with time. Much the same can be said of the Oulu Irish Elks who after their outstanding win in last years game in Oulu have had a season of rebuilding and it showed very much in their first game against Jyväskylä with inexperience giving away to costly goals. However, the final game against the Harps can only give strong optimism for the future of Oulu GAA with a performance that showed signs of the Elks of old.
