GAELIC SPORTS WORLD Issue 35 – October 6, 2015 | Page 2

FOREWORD FROM THE EDITOR In our Feature this issue we return to profiling a GAA club on the international scene. Whether it is Asia, the US, Canada or Europe the similarities in how a GAA club is born remain consistent in that it’s usually St. Patrick the one responsible for making things tick. Making things stick however is altogether another proposition. Whether one is religious or not, the saint had a passion for his calling travelling the length and breadth of the island of Ireland in his missionary work. In his name that passion is celebrated annually each March when Irish people come together especially those in far off lands. In the city of Seville in southern Spain, Irish immigrant’s some years back, reconnected on St. Patrick’s Day and shared a vision of a different passion, the playing of Gaelic sports in their new home. The Eire Og Sevilla club was born and over the past six years has grown to become part of the local community and in the process established several firsts from both a local sporting and GAA perspective in the region. We take a look at how they are endeavouring to make things stick.
