20th with Providence v Hartford and UConn v Worcester
B. This was just the second hurling match that Providence,
the number one hurling team in Rhode Island, ever played.
Providence showed up with a panel of 17 players and they
came ready to play. Providence came away with a well-deserved win (6-6 -4-5) for their club’s first of what promises
to be many more victories.
The second match between UConn and Worcester B went
back and forth with the lead changing hands throughout.
UConn’s strong finish gave them a two point victory (4-5 to
2-9). A second doubleheader was played on Sunday last, September 27th in Worcester. UConn played Worcester A and
came away with another two point victory (7-10 to 8-5). Once
18
again, they had a strong finish and won the match when the
sliotar rattled the back of the net with just seconds left on the
clock. This goal came right after Worcester had taken the lead
with a well taken point with just one minute to go. In the second match Worcester B got their first win (2-15 to 3-2) of the
season over Providence. As they did in the first match, Providence came to play and put up a great fight against the more
experienced Worcester team. The league standings (below)
show just how close the competition is. There promises to be
many more nail biters before the 2015 season ends.
The league has three more rounds to be played and will culminate in a finals tournament to be played at the Irish American Home in Glastonbury, CT on October 25th.
