For the first time ever a round of the Pan European GAA Football Championships was held last weekend in the Galician region of Spain in the city of A Estrada, and it turned out to be a highly successful event. arate teams into junior, intermediate and senior categories for the European finals on October 17th in Vienna, Austria. The number of teams participating was an impressive 25 with no less than 18 of those from Galicia comprising of native players whose standard of play caught the eye. Teams also travelled from Belgium, Holland, France, Germany and Italy, and with a good local fan base in attendance everything was in readiness for an exciting event. A massive 15 men’s sides took to the fields with some 11 of those all from Galicia. This in and of itself is a testament to the growth of Gaelic Football throughout this Celtic autonomous region of northwest Spain and as such added greatly to the overall success of this first round of the Pan European championships.
