This one was close all through the opening half with Emeralds leading by just two points at the break on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-5. The game changer came in the second period when Emerald’s Brendan Long, as he did the previous week, found the net and put space between his side and Cuchullains. Emeralds proceeded to take control of the game getting the last three scores for an important victory of 3-17 to 2-11. Best for Emeralds were Paudie O Dwyer, John Cody, Brendan Long and Paul O Leary, while for Cuchullains, Alan Murphy, Michael Fogarty, Rob Kelly and Pat Lannigan played well. With four weeks left, Emeralds on 8 points are now in pole position to drive on for outright honours with next 32 Meanwhile in the three team Camogie League, leaders Naomh Padraig did enough to outgun Tara in another entertaining and high goal-scoring game. These two opened the league at the end of May with ‘Padraig back then coming out best by two goals in a hard fought game. This time the match was equally competitive but it was Naomh Padraig who had the better of the first half when leading by eight points on a scoreline of 4-10 to 3-5, with goals once more a feature. Tara kept up the pressure in the second half and remained in striking distance but they were not able to breach the gap and it was Naomh Padraig once again who took victory by 6-11 to 5-9. Theresa Kennedy, Sinead Kelly and Breda Wickham did well for the victors, while Roisin Brouder, Sinead Kenny and Helen Frewin tried their best for Tara Gaels. With two rounds to go in the Camogie league last year’s runners-up Naomh Padraig have done enough to secure this year’s crown.
