TEMPERS Way out West in Salthill, Mayo and Galway went head to head, shoulder to shoulder and body to body in a surprisingly ill-tempered affair, both sides apparently anxious to show nerves of steel and a determination to put in place their own anti-bullying policy. Mayo have been accused of being “too soft” for championship football, not anymore! And Galway are still there. The victories for Kildare, Westmeath and Meath, while welcome in their own counties, will scarcely send shudders down the backs of the other teams that have progressed to date, but at least they are still in the race for provincial honours, just like Roscommon, Sligo, Fermanagh, Derry, Monaghan, teams we have not heard from in a while. But the short money for Sam is still on The Big Four, whoever you figure them to be! Tommy Moran is a former national GAA referee and past county & provincial GAA administrator. 53
