did improve things for the 2013 All Ireland champions. They
showed improved form against Tipperary in a hard fought
game where a pair of second half Tipp goals decided the
match. Being able to take goals is important and Tipp’s Noel
McGrath and James Woodlock finished expertly in contrast
to Dublin forward David Treacy’s crucial early failure to covert from close range against Cork. Goal opportunities don’t
come along too often and must be taken when presented.
After a shaky opening loss to Dublin, Tipp are going along
nicely also in the league. Expect them to ratchet things up for
their clash with Kilkenny and if they beat the Cats, they can
go on to win the league.
In Division 1B meanwhile, Laois continue on an upward
curve with a good four point win over Antrim last weekend.
Waterford battled hard for their victory over an improved
Offaly side, while a leaky Wexford goalkeeper, didn’t help
their cause in a narrow one point loss to Limerick. This seven goal game was one of the best of the weekend. Limerick
deprived of their Kilmallock players club duty bound, edged
out the win with a late point but at least two of their goals
should have seen the Wexford keeper do better. Still, this
Wexford side are improving into a well-balanced outfit and
will make the top four in 1B, where they will prove a handful
for any of the top four in 1A in the quarter finals. Ditto for
both Limerick and Waterford.
In 2A, a division that gets little following, Carlow are flying
on 3-0, with Westmeath next on 5 points, Kerry on 3, and
London with just the one win on two points. Two rounds left
also here with the top two making the final on April 4th. In
2B, Kildare are also going very well on the same three wins
from three record, while in 3A, Tyrone and Monaghan share
top place with 5 points, next are Roscommon on four. In
Division 3B, Warwickshire and Longford are doing well in
top spot with two rounds left to play where 1 plays 2 in the
final next month.
