the same weekend, the level of club participation from
the Celtic region was impressive. Barcelona Gaels and
Valencia St. Vincent also participated in the two categories, and also a combination of players from various teams
from Andalusia (Andalucia Rebels, a new club) formed by
players of Eire Og Seville, Granada and Costa Gaels Gaels
played in the men’s competition.
The Madrid Harpettes took victory in the Ladies tournament when defeating Irmandinhos A Estrada in the
final by a narrow three points. It was a close game in
which the Harpettes were almost surprised by the application of the Irmandinhas side. The Galicians had the
better of the opening half leading by 0-5 at the interval.
However, Madrid did not give up and showed why they
are the current champions, playing a great second half
to overtake Irmandinhos and take victory by 3-9 to
3-6. Third place went to Bráithreachas who defeated
Mecos in another hard fought three point game, 2-03
to 0-6.
In turn, the Madrid Harps won the men’s tournament
defeating the Andalucia Rebels by a further three point
margin. The Andalusian team had a strong side that put
the Harps under pressure throughout this game. Andalucía led by a goal at half time but in the second half the
Harps, like their female counterparts, came back with
a vengeance and took victory by 2-09 to 2-06. Towards
the end, it became difficult for the Rebels, who ended up
playing with one less player.
