SECOND BEST IN FINALS
Despite the fantastic achievement of British GAA clubs
reaching three All Ireland Club
finals in Croke Park, Dublin
over last weekend, the opposing Irish sides proved too
strong in all games.
On Saturday last Feb 14, Valentine’s Day supporters of John
Mitchels of Liverpool made
the journey from Merseyside
to Dublin to cheer on their
team in the All Ireland Junior
Football Club Final. The team
standing in their way was Brosna, a club from Kerry with
tradition on their side and
wearing the favourites tag.

The Liverpool side held the distinction of being the only
British GAA club to reach a junior All Ireland football decider and last weekend’s game was their second appearance in the final. Back in in 2009, they also reached the
decider but found another Kerry club, Skellig Rangers, too
much on the day. Six years later, fortunes didn’t favour
Mitchels anew as they faced another Kerry outfit, but still
would have been boosted when upsetting the odds with

their fine semi-final win over Moate All Whites from
County Westmeath.
The Kerry side had the better of the early going as they
led the Lancashire champions by 0-5 to 0-1 at half time. A
tough Kerry defense made things difficult for John Mitchels forwards in that opening period. Though with just the
