the short match the children
were already supporting their
favourite team and cheering
loudly whenever a point or a
goal was scored!
Seeing the players play a
match really got the children
excited to try out Gaelic football and so afterwards they
were split into smaller groups
to practice handpasses and solos. The children even got to
challenge the goalkeepers to a
penalty shootout, kicking from
their hands. Jerry Holmes of
Eadestown GAA and Michael
McHugh of Westmeath GAA
were on hand to help with the
coaching sessions.
All the children really enjoyed
it and wanted to find out how
they could a join a team ... a
promising sign for the future
of Galician GAA. The Estrada
and Santiago players were surrounded at the end of the day
by their new fans looking for
autographs. The teachers really
enjoyed the day as well and reported that the children could
talk about nothing else for the
rest of the week.
