MAASTRICHT, HOLLAND NOVEMBER 27, 2014 TONY BASS LEGENDARY EUROPEAN GAA SECRETARY BY DENIS O’BRIEN A GAA club should not be measured just by its achievements on the field, but by what it has done off the field. Indeed, the success of on-field matters depends largely on their being a strong administrative core behind the scene making sure everything is running smoothly. The role of secretary is a vital component in the running of a GAA club, county or regional entity, and nowhere is this better exemplified than in Europe with the work of European GAA Secretary, Tony Bass. For the past decade Mr. Bass, who last weekend stepped down in his role as secretary, has been a key figure in enhancing the European GAA County Board (ECB) on an organizational level and in its current thriving club state. Gaelic Sports World interviewed Tony Bass last week on his distinguished tenure, where many would deem his influence as ‘legendary’. 14
