GAELIC SPORTS WORLD

The organisation of any sports
tournament is no small task. Be it local,
regional, national or continental, sports
events call for focus, discipline, good
planning and the determination to see
things through. Organization on a local
and regional level have to have all these
elements and probably a lot more, but
when attempting a national or even bigger
sporting event, the logistics and indeed the
sacrifices, multiply accordingly.

The 2014 Australasian GAA Championships
in Melbourne, Australia next week, is
one of those sporting tournaments that
calls for commitment and planning of a
special kind as it draws over 600 players
from across the continent of Australia and
even further afield in New Zealand. This is a
tournament that lasts five days involving 25
teams, but not just any kind of team,
not just a local club, but state teams
representing the regions of Oz.
This particular amateur sporting event not
only involves player and officials sacrifices
for almost a week-long schedule of games,
the attempt of organizing state teams in the
first place from New South Wales, South
Australia, Western Australia, Queensland,
Victoria and New Zealand, truly describe
the Australasian Championships as one
of the most prestigious Gaelic athletic
tournaments in the world.
In this 10th edition of the magazine, we
preview this impressive sporting event.
