All agency employees must complete
in-service training on an annual basis. Sworn staff must complete a minimum of 20 hours annually which includes mandatory firearms requalification and use of deadly force. Non-sworn staff must complete a minimum of eight hours annually.
In FY15, new hires for parole officer positions required the completion of the eight week basic training course within twelve months of their hire date. As of July 1, 2015, with the creation of the Department of Community Supervision (DCS), parole officer training is no longer conducted by the Board. Necessary training of all community supervision officers for Georgia is completed by DCS.
