15 [Evaluation of the G20 Leaders Summit in St Petersburg on September 5-6] V. Conclusion – The future of G20 and the role of G20 Foundation After having analyzed the Outreach groups’ recommendations and the final Leaders’ Declaration, we can conclude that the G20 have great opportunities to become the most important platform for solving long-term and short-term global problems. However, G20 still does not use its full potential and therefore needs to improve in several key areas. First of all, G20 needs to position itself as strategic platform that is able to take more responsibility than it takes now, has a more transparent decisions process and a greater claim to lead the global community. As next step, G20 needs to establish the covering of daily politics issues like this year’s Syria conflict to strengthen its role as platform for long- and for short-term problems. However, the long-term purposes should stay key element of the agenda as long-term solutions can decrease the number of short term problems like the Syria crisis. Finally, it is necessary to increase the impact of the Outreach Groups in order to increase public participation in the G20 and the legitimacy of the G20. Better coordination and collaboration between the different Outreach groups and focusing on key topics can be first ideas to improve the role of the Outreach groups. The G20 Foundation wants to support the G20 on their way and therefore help to make the G20 decision process more efficient. We especially want to focus on integrating the different stakeholders of the G20 decision process like the Outreach groups as neutral and non-party process enabler, as we think G20 is the best environment for dealing with global challenges.
