Mozignite
MozIgnite, the event which inaugurated the Mozilla Club in GITAM University turned out to be an elephamisentine success. Of course the auditorium was first filled up in the morning and was only half-filled in the afternoon session. There will always be students who attend seminars and workshops just so that they get to skip classes. I can properly say these students missed out on the actual action.
The morning started out as every event in GITAM University does. First, the dignitaries were invited onto the dias, They included the Principle of GIT, Vice-principle of GIT and IEEE Branch Coordinator. Apart from GITAM University's guests, were the speakers Sujith Reddy and Meraj Imran who are currently acting as Mozilla's reps.
Sujith first took the stage and spoke about how our safety and privacy on the web is just an illusion. He also spoke about how violent software piracy has become, particularly in India, over the past decade. According to him, the provision of open source software can prevent software piracy from happening. It would be like trying to steel a man's wallet, after he offers it to you. There is no possible way you can now steel the wallet. Similarly, open source software works on the same principle
After the lunch break, Meraj spoke about what one can do for Mozilla. There are several ways one can contribute to the Mozilla organization. For example, you can help by joining the translation teams if you know any other languages. Marketing always requires an extra set of hands, for an organization that doesn't make money on their products, it would be extra helpful if the users promote the software.
