COLLOQUY Make in India vs. Invent in India…… I feel that ‘Make in India’ is an outstanding initiative taken up by our Prime Minister. It will not only help us in emerging as a global manufacturing country but will also create employment as India has the world’s most cost-efficient labour unlike China. Our government has increased the FDI limits on important sectors. There has been an establishment of research hubs for scientists in areas like defense, space, electronics etc. I think with such commendable projects, inventions are bound to happen. It is good to see that many private companies have invested in this initiative. This campaign will help us to have better lifestyles -Sushmita Gaikwad Make in India is a new initiative taken up by the government. This provides many opportunities for employment and development. To support this, the government is also allowing FDI. This if considered only in the profit point of view is a very good appeal but only in the short run. Invent in India might not generate profit immediately but with proper investment of time, money and innovation more than the existing profit will be gained from it. Invent in India will lead us to the future, once aspired by our freedom fighters. -Aishwarya T With the "Make in India" initiative started by our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, India is likely to progress in the economic sector. According to me Make in India will give a new ray of hope and will open a plethora of opportunities for the youth of India. With startups and new apps coming up on a large scale it will help the initiative boost further and will contribute to the progress of the nation as well. Although “Invent in India” will change the scenario completely, in my view the “Make in India” initiative has to be first taken to greater heights and then going for the latter will make a great deal of difference thereby improving the scope of manufacturing and invention. - Gayatri Ingle The Make in India initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is directed towards making India a global manufacturing hub. It aims at generating jobs, attracting direct foreign investment and enhancing skill development. However in order to have Make in India and be selfsufficient in the long run we must have Invent in India. It is not always possible to borrow ideas from other nations and then implement those in ours. In order to be competitive in today’s world we need to invent new technologies. To achieve this, emphasis should be laid on education, start-ups should be encouraged and budding talent should be nurtured. We need to modify the “make in India” concept to “Invent, discover and make in India”. It is ultimately discoveries and inventions that lead to products -Prachi Mathur As Indian citizens, we all feel proud thinking about the day when we actually achieve 'make in India', the vision of our Prime Minister. The idea behind Make in India is very noble. Talking about 'Invent in India'; it will definitely bring in revolution and raise India globally. But practically, this is only possible if proper resources and environment is provided to invent. Presently, Indians prefer going abroad and doing their research instead of doing it in India because of the lack of proper opportunities. It would be great to see a product being invented, made and marketed by Indians. In my opinion, 'make in India' is an excellent vision but if whatever we make is invented in India itself, India will develop at a faster pace, beyond our imagination. –M.Shreya Make in India is an initiative of the Government of India to encourage multinational, as well as domestic, companies to manufacture their products in India. In India where unemployment is a huge obstacle in growth, this initiative will help in creating more jobs for people and it certainly will strengthen the economy. I also feel that this alone is not adequate. For any country to be developed, the science and technological advancements and inventions play a major role as it is the way to the future. I feel that the motto has to be ‘Invent and Make in India’ for India to be at the forefront. -B.Naveena
