RENOVATION OF THE PIERCE BURCH WATER TREATMENT PLANT

Arlington Water Utilities is just over a year into a $ 112.5 million renovation of the Pierce Burch Water Treatment Plant at 1901 Lakewood Drive . Monthly progress photos are being taken with drones that show the massive new tanks that will store 8 million gallons of finished water at the plant . In fall 2022 , the contractor on the project , Archer Western , LLC , poured more than 5,000 cubic yards of concrete to construct the bases to the two underground clearwells on the southeast corner of the site . That is about 10 million pounds of concrete per base .
Then , they began building the walls on site , which are made up of 88 concrete panels that are each 37 feet tall and 13 feet wide . Once the exterior and interior baffle walls were complete , work on the dome that will cover the clearwells started . Another 1,000 cubic yards of concrete will be needed to construct the two domes . The project is on schedule to be completed in September 2025 .

CELEBRATING PROGRESS

The City of Arlington celebrated two major milestones in May 2022 – the completion of the renovation of the Lake Arlington Raw Water Pump Station and the kickoff of construction on a new laboratory and maintenance building .

$ 21 MILLION

Lake Arlington Raw Water Pump Station – Ribbon Cutting
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Arlington Water Utilities teamed up with the Trinity River Authority of Texas ( TRA ) to build the Lake Arlington Raw Water Pump Station , a $ 21 million capital improvement project that was completed in early 2022 . It will help provide tap water to more than half a million North Texas residents . Both Arlington and TRA use Lake Arlington as a source of raw water for their water treatment plants . TRA ’ s Tarrant County Water Supply Project supplies water to five customer cities in Tarrant County – Bedford , Colleyville , Euless , Grapevine , and North Richland Hills .
TRA and Arlington split the cost of the project , in which Arlington ’ s old pump station was expanded and remodeled . Six vertical turbine pumps to pull water from the lake are a key part of the new station . Three of the pumps serve Arlington . Three serve TRA ’ s Tarrant County Water Supply Project .
