Water Quality Wins Award

In 2021 , Arlington Water Utilities won the Annual Best Tasting Surface Water State Award from the Texas Water Utilities Association for the third time . Industry professionals judged water samples from the four regions of the state represented during the Association ’ s 103 rd Annual School in Corpus Christi in September . Arlington was previously selected to represent North Central Texas Region in the 2021 contest . Arlington also took home the statewide honor in 2014 and 2015 . Investing for Arlington ’ s Future

Two major Arlington Water Utilities projects that began in 2020 are nearing completion as 2022 begins . Below is a snapshot of each project :
JOHN F . KUBALA TREATMENT PLANT CHEMICAL IMPROVEMENTS Cost : $ 13.8 million . Since September 2020 - Replaced all bulk liquid chemical tanks ; installed a new chemical feed system and modified the gaseous chemical system ; and added a new mixing box to substantially increase effectiveness of chemical mixing and enchance metering / analyzing capabilities . LAKE ARLINGTON RAW WATER PUMP STATION ( in partnership with Trinity River Authority ) Cost : $ 20.2 million . Since June 2020 - Updated raw water pump station , sharing design and operation costs ; improved , rehabilitated and replaced outdated metering facilities to meet regulatory requirements ; and increased redundancy to extend service life an additional 25 years .

Largest-Ever Plant Rehab Kicks Off

In November 2021 , City of Arlington officials kicked off a nearly $ 112.5 million improvements project at the Pierce-Burch Water Treatment Plant . The construction will be the largest plant rehabilitation project in the history of the Arlington Water Utilities treatment division .
Over the next four years , the construction company hired by the City , Archer Western Contractors , will build two new underground clear wells , where a total of 8 million gallons of finished water can be stored . High service pumps that send water out from the plant will also be updated . These new features will allow the plant to achieve optimal performance and have redundancies
built in that increase energy efficiency and water conservation .

The project is the first major capital improvement project to be put out for bid under Arlington ’ s recently adopted Minority / Woman Business Enterprise policy . The contract for the improvements met a project-specific goal of 19.6 % MWBE participation , which was set based on workforce availability .
• City of Arlington civil engineers designed 30,187 feet of water and sewer mains in 2021 , saving the city $ 330,000 in design consultant costs .
• The water department ’ s Water Resources Division ensured that 100 percent of high hazard backflow locations in Arlington were tested for safety .
