Working with Fire Training, Fleet, and Fire Resource to coordinate and manage the unique training and equipment needs of this section, the Special Operations Captain oversees the specialized response teams: Hazardous Materials Response Team (HMRT), Swift Water Rescue/Dive Team (SWRDT), Technical Rescue Team (TRT), two Gas Well Response Teams, a TIFMAS Team (Wildland Fire Fighters), and a Wilderness Rescue Team. AFD’s Fleet consists Fleet Highlights of a combination of more than 140 Quantity Avg. Age in Yrs. apparatus ranging Engines 23 6.95 from traditional fire Trucks/Quints 7 9.57 engines, aerial (ladder) trucks, and Brush Trucks 7 8.03 command vehicles to Light Response 7 .5 more specialized vehicles that support Special Operations, Fire Prevention, and Special Events. The average age of the Fire Department fleet is eight years and is valued at more than $17 million. The Apparatus Specialist coordinates the daily maintenance activities for all frontline, reserve, and support vehicles. Fire Resource is tasked with purchasing, procuring, and delivering the supplies and tools needed to operate and sustain the 17 fire stations, 17 Engine companies, five Ladder companies, and other specialized vehicles and apparatus.
