Medical Operations The Medical Operations Section (Med Ops) is led by a Deputy Chief, with direct support from a Health & Safety Captain, a EMS Lieutenant, and three EMS Coordinators. This section is responsible for the readiness of EMS delivery in the city. The Medical Operations Section coordinates with the City’s Medical Director, Dr. Cynthia Simmons, and the Emergency Physicians Advisory Board (EPAB) to provide quality Continuing Education and EMS training for the Department. Quality Improvement reviews, development of standard operating procedures, and EMS system protocols are led by Med Ops’ clinical staff. Additionally, the Med Ops team monitors the contractual performance of the ambulance provider. Other important functions of this section include:  Coordination of employee health fitness evaluations and vaccinations  Ongoing point of contact for personnel who experience work-related infectious disease exposures, injuries, and illness  Conducting post-injury/accident investigations  Coordinating random drug and alcohol testing  Ensuring coordination with the City’s Employee Wellness Program  Conducting “Hands-Only CPR” training for the public and City Employees Steve Hendrix  Managing over 485 public access automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) Deputy Chief  Auditing emergency medical treatments provided by Arlington Fire Department personnel  Maintaining oversight on the City’s disaster medical cache DUTY / HONOR / COMPASSION 17 / EXCELLENCE
