The Arlington Fire
Department’s fleet
consists of 17 front-line
engines, five front-line
aerial apparatus, two
demand / special-event
engines, two light
response SUVs, five
command SUVs, seven
brush-fire trucks, four
specialized rescue units,
three rescue boats, a hazardous materials response unit, an air & light support truck, along with
numerous light duty support and off road vehicles. The Reserve Apparatus Facility houses an
additional five reserve engines and two reserve aerial apparatus.
In 2012, the Division received three new Spartan Crimson fire engines (including the new Engine
17), a new Dive/Swift water Rescue Team medium duty van, a new medium-duty Technical
Rescue Team truck, ordered another new fire engine, two light response special operations SUVs,
and two new wild land-typed fire fighting trucks.
Members of the Division, with participation from the City’s Fleet Manager, work together within the
Apparatus Committee to provide volunteered services on fire apparatus design, specification,
research and development;
purchasing and procurement
planning and inspections, in service
training on new apparatus, and to
comprehensively manage the heavy
fleet replacement process.
Considerations and practices in
heavy fleet management and
replacement include Fire and Public
Works industry standards, overall
age of the vehicle, power train
usage hours, mileage tracking and
management, maintenance costs,
obsolescence, operating costs,
replacement cost, and also fund
availability.
