The Fire Rescue Division is the single largest division in the Arlington Fire Department( AFD) and is comprised of the resources typically associated with fire department emergency service delivery and operations. There are 288 personnel assigned to the division, with a complement of 96 assigned to each of the three shifts. At any given time, there is a minimum of 83 employees working on a rotating shift of 24- hours on, 48-hours off at 17 fire stations. Each shift, designated as A, B, and C, is commanded by one of three Battalion Chiefs who manage day-to-day activities, respond to major incidents, and work to facilitate concurrent activities to support the goals and objectives of the organization. Each of the three on-duty Battalion Chiefs oversees five to six stations, staffed by six to eight Officers and their crews. Minimum staffing for AFD heavy apparatus, such as engine and aerial units, is typically three to four personnel. The Division manages all incidents within the National Incident Management System. Fire Rescue takes pride in being prepared for all hazards and capable to quickly respond in any environment.
