PALS
The Arlington Fire and Police Departments partner to provide
Public Safety Athletic League camps during the summer.
Since 2007, the departments have worked together to provide
Arlington’s youth with an opportunity to interact with firefighters
and police officers in a healthy, fun atmosphere. PALS camps
run for a week and focus on outreach to at-risk students from
the Arlington and Mansfield school districts who would benefit
from positive contacts with uniformed personnel. Camp
activities include recreational sports, tours of the Rangers
Ballpark at Arlington and Cowboys Stadium, first aid/CPR
training, and hands-on simulations of fire and police job duties.
AFD Community Emergency Response
Team (CERT) is a volunteer program that teaches
citizens subjects such as disaster preparedness, terrorism awareness, first aid, fire safety, search and
rescue and several other topics over the course of
many weeks. CERT members played an important
role in the April tornado recovery efforts.
On June 15, CERT member Linda McMillen was
awarded the second annual Jack Colley Award for
Volunteerism. This award honors an outstanding
volunteer who exhibits leadership, dedication, selfsacrifice and service.
National Night Out
The Fire Department is actively involved in the safety of
the neighborhoods we serve. Station personnel attend
town hall meetings, block parties, and other community
events throughout the year. With support from the
Police Department, as well as the community, NNO
events serve to instill and reinforce the presence of
public safety.
