Fire Resource is responsible for
providing the tools necessary for the
Fire Department to operate. A staff of
four is responsible for purchasing,
maintaining, repairing, and delivering
equipment that ranges from firefighters‘
protective clothing to appliances for fire
stations.
In August 2011, Fire Resource
relocated to a remodeled City building
closer to the Department‘s Ready
Reserve Apparatus facility. At 7,469
square feet, the new Fire Resource
center includes dedicated space for a
uniform room, a bunker gear storage
room, a radio room, an air pack repair
shop, a bunker gear maintenance
room, a small engine maintenance shop, and warehouse storage.
During Fiscal Year 2011, over 3,290 scheduled deliveries were made to Arlington‘s 16 fire
stations. Fire Resource personnel are manufacturer-certified to bench test self-contained
breathing apparatus, and trained to refill oxygen bottles used on medical calls. Last year, 159
SCBA air bottles were recharged during emergency incidents. In addition, 198 oxygen bottles
were refilled, eliminating the need to
use a vendor for medical oxygen.
Resource staff also maintain small
engine equipment, including ―Jaws of
Life‖ type heavy extrication tools,
chains saws, and lawn
equipment. Fire Resource personnel
respond as requested to provide
support at the scene of emergency
incidents, performing on-the-spot
exchanges or repairs to equipment,
and providing fluids, food, and cooling
or heating stations for personnel
rehabilitating from strenuous activities.
Fire Resource support vehicles
responded 39 times to emergency
incidents in Fiscal Year 2011.
