During that event, which had about 75,000 people in attendance and was featured on ESPN Game Day, Firefighters and Paramedics responded to 113 EMS calls, 15 fire calls, 14 ambulance transports and saw more than 300 people in the first aid stations. That is more than 200 percent higher than our average call volume at typical 2011 events.

Monster Jam, a monster truck rally, returned for a second year as well. In 2011 it was attended by more than 50,000 people and was very well received by management and fans. This type of event presents some unique safety concerns that must be mitigated: large amounts of fuel on site, vehicle fires or entrapped drivers, and out-of-control vehicles or parts of vehicles leaving the arena and entering the seating area. Our planning process has been flexible and responsive to these challenges.
FY 2011 was the first year for the three-day Texas Home and Garden Show, which featured vendors, demonstrations, food, and a full size new home constructed on one of the Cowboys plazas.
The only concert in 2011 was Kenny Chesney: Goin‘ Coastal. This mega concert featured four opening acts and approximately eight hours of tailgating activities. It was an excellent reinforcement to the planning team that mega country concerts are extremely busy and a challenge for both our Stadium and City resources.
Other City Events
During 2009 and 2010, much of what was handled by the Office of Special Events was contained at the Stadium and Ballpark or associated with these venues in some way. FY 2011 brought expanded interest in Arlington from many new events. In addition to annual events such as the 4 th of July celebration and Holiday Light Parade, OSE participated in the permitting process for approximately 70 events held in the city. These events ranged in attendance from 100 to 5,000 people and included walks, runs, and outdoor festivals. Some notable events in 2011 included:
Alzheimer‘ s Association Memory 5K Walk, Don Zetnick Winter Run, Jiggle Butt Run, American Heroes 5K / 10K on Memorial Day, the first Arlington Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning Texas A & M Parade Hispanic Heritage Music Festival and Cinco de Mayo at Levitt Pavilion Sherlock‘ s St. Patrick‘ s Day Celebration Sizzling Summer Half Marathon at River Legacy Park Hoop It Up Basketball Tournament UTA Graduation
