Achievements
The National League of Cities awarded Arlington the 2024 Cultural Diversity Award for the Passport Scholarship program offered through the Arlington Public Library. The Passport Scholarship program was designed to help students in the Arlington community obtain their first passport, allowing them to enrich their lives by immersing themselves in new cultural experiences.
The National Association of Town Watch announced in December that Arlington received first place in its 2024 National Night Out Awards program, which recognizes communities for outstanding participation and engagement during the annual event. This marks the second consecutive year-- and the fourth time in the past five years( 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024)-- that Arlington has taken top honors for cities with a population of 300,000 +. Arlington has placed in the Top 3 nationally every year since 2015.
The City’ s Office of Communications earned 11 awards from the national City-County Communications Marketing Association( 3CMA) and a state-best 13 awards from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers for its video programming, events, graphic design and social media community outreach efforts. Additionally, Arlington’ s Director of Communication and Legislative Affairs, Jay Warren, was named the 2024 Communicator of the Year by the 3CMA.
Wallethub ranked Arlington No. 19 on its Best Cities to Drive In List.
The City of Arlington was awarded Silver status from the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition for a second year in a row in recognition of its contributions to reduce petroleum use and improve air quality. Arlington’ s fleet currently includes nine electric vehicles, which are used by various departments. The City has installed eight electric vehicle charging stations for these fleet vehicles at strategic locations.
