CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON $ 112 MILLION WATER TREATMENT PLANT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
In November 2021 , the City of Arlington kicked off a nearly $ 112.5 million improvement project at the Pierce-Burch Water Treatment Plant . The construction is the largest plant rehabilitation project in the history of the Arlington Water Utilities treatment division .
Two underground clearwells on the southeast corner of the site . These clearwells will eventually store 8 million gallons of water . Other upgrades will include the replacement of chemical feed facilities used during the water treatment process , high service pumps used to send water to homes and businesses , and electrical improvements . These new features will allow the plant to achieve optimal performance and have redundancies built in that increase energy efficiency and water conservation .
ARLINGTON CELEBRATES WATER UTILITIES LABORATORY GROUNDBREAKING
In May 2022 , the City of Arlington broke ground on a new $ 12.3 million laboratory and maintenance building at the John F . Kubala Water Treatment Plant in South Arlington . The new facility will combine three buildings that are all in need of expansion and updating into one modern 26,825-square-foot facility .
The City ’ s two water treatment plants produced more than 18 billion gallons of water in 2021 . During that time , Arlington Water Utilities laboratory employees also collected and tested 6,131 samples from the treatment plant and throughout the City ’ s distribution system .
