Deputy City Manager Don Jakeway
was awarded the 2013 Chairman’s
Award for Lifetime Achievement
from the International Economic
Development Council (IEDC) for his
“lasting achievement in the field of
economic development.” Jakeway also
received the IEDC – Fellow Member
Award for his ongoing contributions
to the profession. Both honors were
presented at an awards ceremony
during the group’s annual conference.
Meanwhile, two Municipal Court
staff members received awards in
2013. Deborah Hill was recognized
with the 2013 Distinguished
Service Award from the Texas Court
Clerks Association. The group also
presented Holly Mangold with the
Extraordinary Achievement Award.
National Night Out celebrated its
30th anniversary nationwide in FY
2013 and Arlington continued to
be a big participant in the event. In
fact, the City ranked 5th in the
nation among cities with a population
greater than 300,000 by the National
Association of Town Watch. The
community hosted more than 140
parties throughout Arlington.
The City’s Discover Division Corridor
Plan was awarded the 2013 Project
Planning Award from the Texas
Chapter of the American Planning
Association. The Division Street
Corridor Strategy identifies action steps
to continue private investment that will
provide jobs, increase property values
and provide an important link between
downtown and the Entertainment
District.
