Fort Walton Yacht Club Letter Log September 2018 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W Commodore’s Corner By Commodore Faye Black email: [email protected] ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS about being Commodore is meeting new members and welcoming them to our awesome piece of paradise. Without a doubt we have the most beautiful piece of property of any club in the area, but we also have an awesome array of people, with varied interests who make up the membership of our club. If you are one of our new members, please introduce yourself and allow me to welcome you! The GM Search Committee has met many times, crafted a job description, posted the General Manager job opening, and developed a matrix as a tool in reviewing over ninety responses. The list has been narrowed to fourteen candidates, with phone and face-to- face interviews being scheduled. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the mem- bers of the Search Committee who have shown a true professional approach to finding the right person for FWYC; Director Matt McGee, Fleet Captain Shari Seaton, Gina Gam- mick, Jennifer Grant and John Holguin. Our hoist at the boat ramp collapsed recently. No one was hurt and surprisingly, there was no property damage, other than the fish cleaning station. Members came to the res- cue to dismantle the hoist and remove it from the boat ramp in about two hours. A very special THANK YOU goes to P/C Dave Vaughan, Vice Commodore Craig Stoldt, Director Matt McGee, Charles Hine, Jerry Black and Brian Harrison for working quickly to remove the hoist. Vice Commodore Stoldt has formed a committee to figure out a replacement strategy. I have full confidence that this committee will have a recommended plan of ac- tion soon. Israel Root AKA “Izzy,” our maintenance person has moved on. Izzy will be terribly missed by all of us at FWYC. He was a real asset to our Club. Fleet Cap- tain Shari Seaton spearheaded a committee to interview lawn service companies and house clean- ing companies. We feel that these two areas are needed to work through until we hire a maintenance person. Any repairs will be assigned to members who have graciously volunteered to help during this tran- sition period. Hope to see you on the water, in the Lounge, Dining Room or Patio! The weather is getting a little cooler, so come on down and enjoy your Club! Former FWYC Member Stuart Juengst brought a very faded FWYC burgee from the Austin Yacht Club and exchanged it for a new one. Stu also gave Commodore Black an Austin YC burgee. 2
